SMILEY 97 minutes, released 28 June 1956 in UK.

Smiley sings Waltzing Matilda in a pub before the Police Sergeant (Chips Rafferty) moves him on. Smiley was raising funds for a bike.

Smiley was modelled on a real person living in Augathella, Western Queensland, and it is worth stopping by the old Cinema in Augathella to read a fuller story.

"2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the classic Australian movie SMILEY.

The 'Smiley' stories were written about a boy growing up in Augathella. Author Moore (Neville) Ramond, son of the local teacher, wrote the stories about his childhood friend Didy 'Smiley' Creevey.

There are many local references in the film, and the theme song was top of the hit parade on the wireless.

Didy 'Smiley' Creevey passed away in 1972.

Locals remember 'Chips' Rafferty as a young shearer on Nive Downs Station."
